The George and Irene Woodruff Elementary School, housed in Love Hall, sits on a hill separate from the Junior High and High Schools. Containing a library, a chapel, classrooms, playgrounds, a gym, and the Hamilton Room cafeteria/auditorium, Love Hall opened its doors in fall 1997 to hundreds of eager young faces. During the construction of this building many students visited the site and signed their names to the inward side of bricks used in the facade. Through this signing of the bricks, the children have left their mark on the building forever.
At the main entrance to Love Hall lies the cloistered courtyard, surrounded by classrooms, where bronze statues of a boy and a girl depict the wonder of learning. Three playgrounds grace our facility, as play is an important part of education. Inside, bright colors and murals exhibit classroom accomplishments and curricula.
The Love Hall gym is home to the 1996 Olympic Basketball floor, now used by hundreds of happy little feet. Two music MIDI labs and two art classrooms contribute fine arts opportunities within the curricula as well.
The Smythe Gambrell Library houses a collection of 31,000 books in addition to audiovisual materials and electronic research resources. The children come to the library for reading enjoyment, research, and our Visiting Author programs.
The Elementary School also offers ASK!, our After School Kids program, for those children seeking an extension to their school day.
