Athletics at Westminster are an integral part of the school's total educational program. The purpose of the athletic program, regardless of age level, is to develop healthy lifestyles and recreational skills and to teach commitment, self-discipline, self-sacrifice, sportsmanship, cooperation, loyalty, and pride in one's self and school community.
Our successful program is evidenced by our many accomplishments, including our ninth time winning the GADA Director's cup in as many years as it has been given. The Director's Cup is given to the best athletic program in the state. Westminster also can boast about having won more state titles than any other high school in the state.
The athletic program is based on interscholastic competition in grades 7 through 12. The level of participation is arranged for each boy and girl appropriate to his or her age, development, ability, and interest. Athletics also provide opportunities for students to deal with adversity.
While varsity competition places a greater emphasis on winning, it is not the primary goal of sub-varsity teams. The sub-varsity programs put a great emphasis on participation and skill development.
