Catbackers

Wildcat fans- Catbackers welcomes you to another year of Westminster athletics. If history is any guide, we can all look forward to an exciting and successful year.

Catbackers is the “all sports” booster organization for The Westminster Schools.  Membership in The Catbackers is open to anyone with an interest in Westminster athletics.  If you enjoy watching Westminster teams compete, you are already a Catbacker.  If you are interested in more actively supporting the athletic programs at Westminster, let us know. We’d love to have you get involved.

A Steering Committee comprised of 40 Westminster parents manages the business and operations of the organization.  Each member of the Steering Committee serves a 2-year term and the primary responsibilities are communicating, building school spirit and fund raising.

How does the Catbackers Steering Committee raise money?

  • Produces and distributes the Green & White, the Westminster Schools’ All Sports magazine
  • Manages and staffs the concession stands at athletic events
  • Sells spirit items at school events

What does the Catbackers Steering Committee do with the money it raises?

  • Approves and funds grants totaling approximately $52,000/year for improvements to Westminster’s programs and equipment.  Coaches make grant requests which are coordinated through the Athletic Director’s Office
  • Presents and funds the annual Bob Ward Catbacker Award to a Westminster coach
  • Hosts an annual picnic in appreciation for all coaches and their spouses
  • Co-sponsors (with PAWS) the annual Pigskin Picnic as well as the Spring Spirit Picnic

When you’re at the next athletics event, pick up a copy of the Green & White. Then, take a minute and join me in expressing sincere appreciation to the Green & White editorial board. This talented and hard working group devoted countless hours this summer to putting together the finest high school sports magazine you could ever hope to see. Many thanks to Ann Laseter, our editor-in-chief, as well as to Cathy Barshay, next year’s editor, along with Booster Ads editor Brenda Beadles; Corporate Ads editor, Roger Ashley; Insert Editors Pam Battey and Jane Davis, and Patron Ads editors Elizabeth Butker and Jamie Brownlee. Each has done a wonderful job.

Our business community and active parent groups support the athletics department by buying ads in the Green & White. They make the magazine possible, so please make every effort to support the advertisers who have made this commitment to Westminster athletics.

We also encourage you to support the concessions stand. Amelia Bennett and Susie Downs have done a wonderful job coordinating concessions stand operations and volunteers. You can support Westminster athletics by purchasing items from, or by volunteering to work in, the stand. It’s easy and a lot of fun.

Finally, I want to thank all the coaches and administrators who give so much of their time and talents to our student athletes. We are truly blessed to have them as mentors for our kids.

I hope to see you in the stands, and as always,

GO CATS!
