Sports Medicine

The goal of the Westminster sports medicine program is to provide the highest quality care possible for junior high, junior varsity, and varsity athletes. We strive for accurate injury identification, swift return to activity, and education of the parent and athlete.

Westminster has a long history of providing the services of professionals for their athletes. The sports medicine program at Westminster has grown over the years to include two full time certified athletic trainers, two graduate assistants, and high school student trainers.

Certified athletic trainers are allied health care professionals responsible for the prevention, management, and care of injuries at all levels of physical activity. They serve as the liaison between the athlete and physician as well as the athlete and coach. Athletic trainers are responsible for covering varsity sports events (games, tournaments, etc.) both at home and away.

Westminster athletes are in especially great hands at home: The Hawkins Athletic Training Room, centrally located in Turner Gym, is approximately 2,500 square feet in size and contains various rehabilitation equipment, two taping stations, and three treatment tables. The room is also equipped with three portable AED’s.

The sports medicine program is another source of education for Westminster students. For example, students are allowed to work with our certified trainers to gain valuable experience for any who might want to go to medical school or work in a medical field.
