Mentor

The Center for Teaching is committed to providing opportunities for experienced teachers to guide young teachers as they learn their craft. In addition, the Center will provide professional development and education for mentors to build expertise as teacher leaders.

The Mentor teacher:

  • serves as a faculty-based professional development coordinator,
  • demonstrates and shares knowledge about teaching with teaching fellows,
  • participates on a regular basis in the direct instruction of teaching fellows,
  • assumes responsibility for assisting in the improvement of instruction through analysis of instructional teaching methods,
  • guides the teaching fellows in their preparation and implementation of lesson plans,
  • coaches the teaching fellows on strategies related to their professional development plan.

In most cases, the Mentor works with the new teacher or fellow for one semester. This position carries with it a stipend.
