Global Online Academy

Setting a new, high standard for online learning.

Westminster is proud to be one of the Global Online Academy (GOA) member schools. The mission of GOA is to reimagine learning to empower students and educators to thrive in a globally networked society. GOA replicates in online classrooms the intellectually rigorous programs and excellent teaching that are hallmarks of its member schools, fosters new and effective ways for students to learn, and promotes students’ global awareness and understanding by creating diverse, worldwide, online schoolroom communities.

Student Project Awarded "Catalyst for Change" Prize

Class of 2017 graduate Louise Hatcher's project, “Gardens: a Tool to End Hunger,” was one of five selected from more than 300 projects to receive the Catalyst for Change Prize at the 2017 Catalyst Conference. The prize is awarded by a panel of advocacy experts to projects that have demonstrated exceptional thoughtfulness, planning, and potential for change.

In her project—completed as part of her GOA Architecture course—Louise reimagined Westminster’s greenhouse as a place that invites and intrigues students in the community to learn about botany and gardening.

GOA at Westminster

A Global Online Academy course earns elective course credit at Westminster. The course appears on the student’s transcript and the grade earned is accounted for in the student’s GPA calculation.

Each semester is 15 weeks in length. Students are expected to commit an average of five to seven hours each week to the courses.

This experience is one that I firmly believe is so important in creating a globally aware student who will eventually be working and dealing with people around the world.Student, Class of 2018
