Debate Students Win at National Tournament

    Two members of the Westminster debate team won their division at the Woodward Novice Nationals.

    Sophomores Chris Rascoe and Arjun Mohan recently won Woodward's Novice Nationals, in the Second Year Division.

    The three-day competition included 80 students from nine states. Following six preliminary debates and four elimination rounds, the duo captured first place. Individually, Chris finished fourth and Arjun finished tenth.

    In the First Year Division, George Alford '20 and Holland Bald '21 reached the quarterfinals. Individually, George placed eighth and Holland placed ninth.

    Also in first year, the pairs of Sam Pavur '21 with Christianna Doele '20 and Payton Selby ’20 with Rhea Niyyar '20 reached the sweet sixteen round. In individual competition, Sara Ann Brackett'20 finished 14th out of nearly 100 students.

    Senior Mary Bryce Brannen and sophomores Alex Greene and Manav Daftari helped coach and judge.
