Cate Simons ’17 was named the Georgia Classical Association Student of the Year at the association’s annual convention in April.

The award, which includes a monetary prize, is given to the student who has committed themselves to the development of Classics in both their own school community and in the external community. Cate was honored not only for her impressive and near-perfect performance on innumerable standardized tests (National Latin Exam, National Mythology Exam, National Greek Exam, and Medusa Mythology Exam, among others), but also because of her commitment to Classics outside of the classroom environment. She devised an independent study that she completed last year and has been taking advanced Attic Greek with Upper School Latin teacher Tim McCauley.

Cate is the first Westminster student to win the award.

The Georgia Junior Classical League—an organization that has more than 2,700 members from more than 60 schools in the state—is a member of the Junior Classical League. The JCL is the second largest youth organization in the nation, behind the Boy Scouts of America.
