Our Inclusive Community

Westminster is committed to creating an inclusive and equitable community where diversity is celebrated as one of our greatest assets. This dedication to diversity, equity, and inclusion is deeply ingrained in our mission and identity as an inclusive Christian school. We embrace individuals from all backgrounds, recognizing the richness that diverse perspectives bring to our educational experience. Whether it's race, ethnicity, nationality, gender, religion, social, economic, status, card, or sexual orientation, we value and respect each facet of human diversity.

Our commitment extends beyond mirror words to action. We work to provide every student with equal opportunity to excel. Every community member is encouraged to thrive, fostering a culture of respect, belonging, and mutual understanding. We believe that learning should reflect diverse voices and experiences to empower students to engage with the complexities of our interconnected world. At Westminster, we recognize our commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion is an ongoing journey that requires continuous learning and dialogue. Together, we strive to build a more equitable and just future, nurturing, compassionate, informed, and responsible leaders of conscience.

“Westminster has held a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion for decades—long before we had the language or letters to describe it. It’s with this focus that we ensure access to opportunities where every Wildcat can thrive. From the classroom to the competition field, Westminster aspires to foster an environment where all students experience support and a deep sense of belonging.”

Community Stories

Everybody Cooks!

Inspired by Norah Dooley’s 1991 children’s book Everybody Cooks Rice, which introduces children to the cooking traditions of a variety of cultures, our Lower School community has been celebrating the diversity of cultures and cuisines represented in Love Hall with a special pot luck family event every spring since 2006.

Equitable Dinners

In September 2023, Westminster’s Office for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion brought parents and students together for a night of thought-provoking conversation and an opportunity to make new connections. The event was part of a larger program called Equitable Dinners Atlanta, which facilitates dinners across the metro area during a one-week period each year. The program includes a one-person play, followed by facilitated conversations focused on complex issues around dinner tables of six to ten people.

Black Alumni Conference

Westminster's first-ever Black Alumni Conference in 2022 focused on the “five R’s” that guide the Black Alumni Council’s work—reconciliation, reengagement, representation, recruitment, and renewal—and set the stage for further dialogue and deeper connections across the School community. The weekend included panel discussions, a virtual keynote address from Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist and author Isabel Wilkerson, small-group sessions, worship in the Barge Commons chapel, and a bell-ringing ceremony commemorating the 50th anniversary of the School’s first five Black graduates: Isaac Clark, Michael McBay, Malcolm Ryder, Jannard Wade, and Wanda Ward from the Class of 1972.

Voices of Resilience

The “Voices of Resilience” JanTerm class tackles heavy topics in history as well as present-day discrimination. During the course, an interfaith group of students travel to Europe to visit Holocaust sites including concentration camps at Auschwitz and other sites, learn about Ashkenazi history and culture, and discuss how to battle antisemitism today. After returning to Atlanta, participating students bring those discussions to their Upper School peers.
