Community Engagement and Strategic Planning

Understanding the varying perspectives and experiences of members of every facet of the Westminster community is vital to the development and successful implementation of a strategic plan that ensures the School provides a culture in which every member feels a deep sense of belonging. The strategic planning process we have undertaken provides a series of milestones by which to gauge our progress. To further develop, refine, and execute this strategic plan, Westminster is engaging with a variety of experts in diversity, equity, and inclusion, as well as experts in specific phases of the process.

The Strategic Planning Process

Data Collection and Review

Historical data related to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion initiatives since the School’s founding were collected and analyzed.

A Community-wide Survey

In the spring of 2021, SIR developed and executed a survey process in which the entire Westminster community was invited to participate. The findings from the Climate and Cuture survey were shared with the community in September 2021 as part of the State of the School Report.

Focus Groups and Interviews

Taking the learnings from the community-wide survey, Illuceo Consuting partnered with the Westminster Advisory Committee (comprised of faculty and staff) during the 2021-22 school year to assemble and meet with focus groups. The findings from the groups helped inform the Executive Report and Strategic Plan.

Executive Report

The consulting team submits a comprehensive report to the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee of the Board based on their finding from the discovery phases of data collection, community-wide surveys, focus groups, and interviews.

Strategic Plan Development

The Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee of the Board works with the consulting team to develop a strategic plan that informs the School’s DE&I initiatives moving forward. The plan includes a formal recommendation for the core responsibilities of a new member of the School’s Leadership Team who will lead this work moving forward.

Strategic Plan Review

The Board of Trustees, Leadership Team, and Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Advisory Committee (comprised of faculty and staff) participate in a comprehensive review of the proposed Strategic Plan and provide their formal feedback to the consulting team and Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee of the Board.

Progress Metrics and Goal Setting

Once the Strategic Plan has been finalized and approved by the Board of Trustees, the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee of the Board works with the consulting team to develop clear, measurable progress indicators to ensure that the School can effectively track the progress of the Strategic Plan.
