Jay Longino '91—intended NBA player turned screenwriter—coupled his talents to write the screenplay for the upcoming star-studded sports comedy, Uncle Drew.
Jay is the sole screenwriter for the film, which is being distributed by Lionsgate Entertainment and opens in theaters nationwide this weekend. The movie tells the story of Dax, who is dealt a series of unfortunate setbacks, including losing his basketball team to his longtime rival. Desperate to win a tournament and the cash prize, Dax stumbles upon the man, the myth, the legend, Uncle Drew, and convinces him to return to the court one more time. The two men embark on a road trip to round up Drew's old basketball squad and prove that a group of septuagenarians can still win the big one.
The film's cast includes Kyrie Irving, Shaquille O'Neal, Tiffany Haddish, Lil Rel Howery, Chris Webber, Reggie Miller, and Lisa Leslie.
Jay was the captain of the boys varsity basketball team his senior year at Westminster. He went on to play basketball in college and intended to play professionally until he discovered his love for writing. Jay's knowledge of the sport and his creative writing talent will surely set Uncle Drew up to be a slam-dunk at the box office!
