The varsity boys lacrosse team clinched the state championship in a thrilling overtime matchup against Lovett.
The championship was a rematch of the Wildcats' April 5 game with the Lions that ended in a 9-8 overtime win. In the championship, the Cats defeated Lovett again 9-8 in overtime.
Despite an early lead, Lovett was able to take an 8-6 lead in the fourth quarter. Chance Loeffler '19 scored with 38 seconds to play, bringing the Cats within one goal of tying the game. Paul Weathington '20 then scored and forced overtime with just five seconds remaining. John O. Izlar '19 made the game-winning goal in overtime.
The 2019 state championship is the sixth title in the program's history and second in the last three seasons.
