The Westminster boys golf program will host the inaugural Larry Nelson High School Golf Invitational on Monday, April 9 at the prestigious Atlanta Country Club.
The tournament will host 13 of the top high school golf programs in Georgia. The student-athletes will be the first high school golfers to compete at the club. The golfers will play in honor of Larry Nelson, a Vietnam War combat veteran, philanthropist, and World Golf Hall of Fame member. Nelson qualified for the PGA Tour at age 27 and went on to win two PGA Championships and the 1983 U.S. Open.
“Golf has played a very important role in my life and I was honored when asked to be associated with this high school golf event featuring some of the best teams in the state," Larry says. "Having competed many times in the Atlanta Classic, I know how special Atlanta Country Club is and what a true test the golf course will be to those who participate."
Larry will be in attendance at the tournament and will present trophies to the winning teams and medalists.
Teams scheduled to compete include Westminster, Harrison, Lassiter, Mt. Bethel Christian Academy, Walton, Carrollton, Centennial, Greater Atlanta Christian Academy, Hart County, Lovett, Marist, St. Pius X, and Woodward Academy.
The event is open to the public and admission is free.
