Samantha Bertschi '21 recently participated in the sixth annual Swim Across America-Atlanta open water swim.
The event, held at Lake Lanier, helps raise money for childhood cancer and blood disorder research. Samantha finished third overall in the women's 5K race and 20th overall for both men and women. More than 200 swimmers participated in the 5K race.
Samantha shined during the swimming and diving state championship earlier this year, where the girls and boys teams were crowned state champions. She placed first in the 500-yard freestyle, while she helped the 400-yard free relay team finish first and the 200-yard freestyle relay team finish second.
Established in 2013, Swim Across America-Atlanta benefits the Cancer and Blood Disorders Center of Children's Healthcare of Atlanta. The leukemia research project supports children as well as adults by hosting Phase 1 leukemia clinical trials at the Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta and Winship Cancer Institute of Emory University.
