Westminster Athletics finished the 2017-18 school year ranked second nationally in the MaxPreps Cup standings.
The MaxPreps Cup annually honors the best overall high school sports programs in the nation. Westminster finished with 1,834 points, behind American Heritage School's 2,039 points. Westminster won the national award following the 2012-13 school year.
The Wildcats won eight state championships in 2017-18, including boys and girls cross country, boys and girls swimming and diving, boys and girls soccer, girls tennis, and boys golf. Volleyball, boys tennis, boys track, and baseball all finished as state runners-up. The boys soccer team also finished their season ranked fourth in the country by USA TODAY High School Sports.
According to MaxPreps, standings are determined by awarding points for teams that win a state title or finish second. Points are given based on the type of sport, size of the state, enrollment size of the playoff division, and number of teams participating in the division. Teams can also earn points for appearing in national rankings.
