The debate pair of George Alford '20 and Holland Bald '21 reached the quarterfinals of the Greenhill Fall Classic in Dallas over the weekend.
Before the main tournament, George and Holland also competed in the exclusive Greenhill Round Robin, an invitation-only event for the 14 top pairs from across the country. The pair won ballots against six of the seven pairs in their division. In all, George and Holland debated 15 90-minute rounds over a span of five days on the subject of the United States' policy on selling arms abroad.
Sara Ann Brackett '20 and Benjamin Sayers '22 also competed at Greenhill, reaching the octafinals and becoming one of only six pairs in the country to be fully qualified for the Tournament of Champions this early in the season. The Tournament of Champions is considered to be the national championship for high school debate teams and is held at the University of Kentucky.
Westminster currently has three pairs ranked in the top 20 in the national Baker Award rankings for policy debate: George and Holland, Sara Anna and Benjamin, and Connor Li '21 with Aaron Yu '21.
The team will compete next at New Trier Township in Chicago and then St. Mark's School of Texas in Dallas.
