The National Association for College Admission Counseling (NACAC) honored Steve Frappier, director of college counseling, with the 2018 Excellence in Education Award.
Frappier, along with Marie Bigham, director of college counseling at Isidore Newman School in New Orleans, and Brandi Smith, college advising coordinator at Marietta City Schools, received the award for founding the ACCEPT Facebook group. ACCEPT, which stands for Admissions Community Cultivating Equity & Peace Today, is a group of thousands of college admissions representatives dedicated to promoting social justice and equity.
Awarded since 1983, the Excellence in Education Award is given to those who have improved the field of education and the way students are served. NACAC honors those who have a great influence over public opinion in matters related to education and those who have been at the forefront of initiatives advocating for students and access to education.
Previous award recipients include former First Lady Michelle Obama, Sen. Dick Durbin of Illinois, and Tom Joyner.
Frappier will be recognized at NACAC's national conference in Salt Lake City later this year.
