First grade students, with the help of Westminster's FLIK Dining staff, baked chocolate chip cookies this week to raise money for hurricane relief efforts.
Under the direction of Executive Chef Eric Centano, Pastry Chef Sabrina Braswell, and Director of Dining Services Parker Adams, the students helped roll the dough for hundreds of cookies. The cookies were then sold to the Westminster community to raise money for the families of faculty and staff impacted by Hurricanes Harvey, Irma, and Maria.
Several faculty and staff members have families in Houston, Puerto Rico, and St. Thomas in the U.S. Virgin Islands. One first grade student and her family evacuated the U.S. Virgin Islands because of Hurricane Irma.
This sweet service opportunity also coincided with the first grade's ongoing study of wheat, and how to plant and grow the grass.
