The Upper School math team won the University of Georgia high school mathematics tournament.
It is the first time since the tournament began in 2001 that the team has finished in first place. The team was boosted by four members placing in the top 20 during the individual rounds: Aaron Yu '21 finished in first place, Johnny Fang '20 in sixth, Anup Bottu '20 in seventh, and Ethan Geo '23 in 13th, respectively.
Other team members included Avi Athota '21, Brandon Zhou '21, Stephen Shin '22, Chris Chen '24, Sara Kapasi '22, Ishan Sheth '22, Gavin Zhou '21, and Samanyu Ganesh '26.
The tournament consists of three parts: a ciphering round, a written test, and a team round. No calculators are allowed in any of the rounds. The individual winners are determined on the basis of the first two rounds, and all three rounds count towards the team competition.
More than 300 students from 42 schools across the southeast competed at the tournament.
