The Atlanta branch of the English-Speaking Union selected Andrew Oglesby '18 as the regional winner of the National Shakespeare Competition.
As the regional winner, Andrew will travel to New York City in April to compete at the 2018 ESU National Shakespeare Competition, to be held at Lincoln Center. He will be one of approximately 60 students vying for the national title.
For the competition, students read, analyze, perform, and recite Shakespearean monologues and sonnets in three qualifying stages: at the school, in the community, and at the national level. Approximately 2,500 teachers and 20,000 students in nearly 60 ESU branches participate each year.
The English-Speaking Union National Shakespeare Competition provides teachers across the country with a performance-based program for the study of English Language Arts and Shakespeare. The competition has engaged more than 300,000 high school students since its inception in 1983.
