Students Honored with 85 Scholastic Art & Writing Awards

Twenty-five Middle and Upper School students were honored with 85 Scholastic Art & Writing Awards at the regional level.

Fourteen students received Gold Keys, a designation that represents “the very best work submitted to local programs”: Rachel Doman '22, Nithya Guthikonda '22, Christopher Huang '22, Riya Jayanthi '21, Akshadha Lagisetti '21 (three Gold Keys), Sarah Lao '21 (eight Gold Keys), Kirsten Liang '26, Toby Liu '22, Julia Rhee '21 (two Gold Keys), Sarah Street '21 (two Gold Keys), Annie Sumardi '21, Soumia Vellanki '21, Alex Wa '24, and Alexandra Yuan '24. Gold Key winners are automatically submitted for recognition at the national level.

Founded in 1923, the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards are the nation’s longest-running and most prestigious recognition program for creative teens in grades 7–12. Students submit nearly 350,000 works of art and writing to 29 categories. Approximately 90,000 works are recognized at the regional level. It has a noteworthy roster of past winners including Andy Warhol, Frances Farmer, Sylvia Plath, Truman Capote, Robert Redford, Stephen King, Joyce Carol Oates, and Zac Posen.

The Gold Key works will now be judged nationally by a panel of creative-industry experts to receive national recognition. Recipients of a national award will be announced later this spring.
