WCAT—Westminster’s student-run webTV station—is the recipient of a 2019 National Student Production Award.
This is the second time WCAT has received national recognition from the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (NATAS), the organization that distributes the EMMY® Awards. WCAT previously won a National Student Production Award in 2017.
In the Sports-Live Event category, the WCAT crew won for their coverage of varsity football’s second-round state playoff win against Greater Atlanta Christian School on November 16, 2018.
The recognized students include Andrew Abernathy '21, Collier Ballard '19, Franklin Brannen '20, James Carr '21, Carlos Carranza '19, Fifo Chlopek '24, Turner Cravens '20, Patrick Diaz '20, Christianna Doele '20, William Foshee '19, David Goetze '20, Jack Hunter '20, Mason McGarrity '20, Reilly O'Neill '22, Mary Louise Rogers '20, Coleman Thompson '20, William Turton '19, and Buckley Wiley '25. Upper School teacher Daniel Searl oversees the WCAT program.
Nominees were selected from entries across the country in 24 programming and craft categories and the winners were announced during a live presentation on Friday, November 1.
Since 2014, WCAT has won two national and 11 regional Student Production Awards from NATAS.
