Apple has once again recognized Westminster as an Apple Distinguished School for 2019-2022 for our continuous innovation in learning, teaching, and school environment.
The Distinguished School designation is reserved for programs that exhibit visionary leadership, innovative learning and teaching, ongoing professional development, compelling evidence of success, and flexible learning environments. Westminster first received the distinction in 2013.
Since implementing the 1:1 Program in August 2012, Westminster students, faculty, and staff have integrated MacBooks, iPads, Apple TVs and other devices into the curriculum and daily school operations. Lower School students use iPads in the classroom daily and launched an annual Innovation Fair that focuses on "What IF" around innovation and Design Thinking. The Middle School has begun looking at how to use Apple technology to enhance the curriculum with more opportunities to leverage mobile and digital capabilities. And Upper School students find the MacBook Pros essential, not only for use in all classes, but also a vital need for scholastic activities, clubs, and non-academic pursuits.
In addition to devices, Westminster assigns technology specialists to each division with dedicated time to meet with their peers for professional development. Students have access to the Knowledge Bar, a help desk staffed by experienced Apple technicians to ensure that student technology needs are consistently being met. IT Services provides student internship opportunities year-round so students can get exposed to Apple hardware and software, as well as the mindset of great customer service. Westminster is also creating a technology showcase space to provide faculty and staff the opportunity to learn how they can expand their use of Apple technology and become more efficient with the tools available to them.
