arts in the upper school

As Westminster students continue into Upper School, they deepen their ambitions toward excellence and achievement, and our arts programs reflect this high focus and commitment. From fully realized play productions to performances of classical music at the highest levels, our curricular and extracurricular offerings give students constant opportunities to perform for our community. Even as we maintain a production and concert calendar as dense as those of many performing arts centers, we maintain our focus on the creative process, teaching leadership, compassion, collaboration, and problem-solving.

Westminster has a rich array of extracurricular offerings in the arts, including student-led publications, clubs, and award and exhibition opportunities that include: Embryo poetry and art magazine, Creating Community field trip group, Teen Team at the High Museum, Therapy in Art Club, MODA Fashion Magazine, and the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards.

Even as Westminster performing arts students have fun being with friends and expressing their creative sides, they are also building essential tools for leadership: collaboration, close-listening, persistence, resilience, and self-confidence. They find subtle truths, nuanced perspectives, and deep beauty in the art they study that we think makes life seem a little richer.

A Commitment to Creativity

An artist has no limits in Westminster's Upper School. When talented and committed students meet with the resources and support offered here, they rise to new levels of craft and creativity.

Whether it’s our annual performance of Messiah or the repertoire the Ensemble performs in cathedrals, the feeling of working with the group to create such great music is by far my favorite part of the choral program. The environment of support and fun helps us make the best music we can.
