Student Support

A Community Committed to Healthy Development

Student Support at Westminster is holistic and wellness-oriented. Our entire community of students benefits from a school culture that prioritizes healthy growth in all areas of a student’s life—academic, social-emotional, spiritual, and physical. Every teacher, coach, club sponsor, and administrator is part of the “circle of care” that surrounds each of our students. On-campus experts including learning strategists, counselors, chaplains, nurses, and more, stay up-to-date with the latest research to ensure we’re meeting the needs of all our learners, from pre-first through senior year.

Wellness For All

Academic Development
In every classroom, students are asked to push beyond absorbing information and ask questions: “What if? What next? What about?” Classroom teachers, grade chairs, advisors, and learning strategists are all part of the team encouraging every student to go further in their learning. Initiatives like the sixth grade “Meet Your Brain” class and study hall for student athletes are designed so all our students can meet their highest aspirations, regardless of personal learning style.
Social-Emotional Development
Social-emotional learning is integrated into the entire Westminster student experience.
Morning Meetings in Lower School teach students how to name their emotions. The student-led Active Minds group gives Upper School and Middle School students a safe place to talk about mental health. All ninth grade students receive a personalized meeting invitation from a counselor, eliminating the barrier of talking to a stranger. With robust social-emotional programming and a team of counselors, Westminster works to give students essential tools for understanding and managing their emotions at every age.
Spiritual Development
Chaplains in every division are an important resource for students of all faiths. Symbolized by beloved traditions like the annual Blessing of the Backpacks, we seek to surround students with love and support as they explore and ask spiritual questions. Physical Development
Westminster is a leader in integrating care for students’ physical health as part of our wellness program. A registered dietician ensures allergy-friendly cafeteria offerings. Athletic trainers implement a comprehensive care program when a student athlete receives a concussion. Nurses help students manage chronic conditions and partner with students to raise awareness of health issues by sponsoring special campaigns on campus like National Sleep Day.
