Revamping the learning experience.

Innovation extends beyond the typical boundaries of STEAM, where we've added Arts into the mixture of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. We think of innovation as intentional changes to the teaching and learning environment for the purpose of enhancing student learning. That's why we've redesigned and renovated spaces on campus to provide students with the room they need to excel. And that's why our faculty constantly seek ways to enhance the manner in which they teach, providing hands-on, engaging coursework.

Innovative Spaces on Campus

Innovation & STEAM Lab

This newly-renovated space in Clarkson Hall provides the environment and tools necessary for students to work on STEAM and Design Thinking projects. The lab is available for classes, robotics competitions, and events, including the Middle School's Shark Tank presentations.

RoboDen

The RoboDen is the home of Westminster’s championship-winning robotics teams in the Lower, Middle, and Upper Schools. The space features advanced tools, equipment, and technology, including four full size game tables along with laptops and programming software.

SkunkWorks

The design thinking rooms in the Lower School allow students to use empathy to problem find and solve, to collaborate, and to navigate in groups that are empowered to figure out problems instead of waiting for change. The SkunkWorks name originated during World War II by Lockheed workers at a site next to a plastics factory. The strong smells that wafted into the tent made the workers think of the foul-smelling “Skunk Works” factory in Al Capp’s Li’l Abner comic strip.

IT Services

Since 2012, Westminster has been a Distinguished Apple School with its 1:1 program, with either laptops or iPads for teachers and students. IT Services began an intern course to build students' capacity in technology services, provide opportunities for students to serve, and allow students to become Certified Apple Technicians. Interns provide technological support across campus and work the Knowledge Bar, the School's IT support desk.
