Discovery

Learning and leading through experience.

Westminster's Discovery program—founded in 1980 and accredited by the Association of Experiential Education—provides Upper School students with experiences that will foster a sense of personal accomplishment and community leadership. The Discovery curriculum is built around four pillars: responsibility, compassion, self awareness, and environmental awareness.

A unique aspect of Discovery is that student leaders help planning each course and its facilitating activities. All students who have completed their ninth grade requirement for Discovery are eligible to apply to become a student leader. In addition to student leaders, faculty from several departments mentor students, attend meetings, and manage groups. The Discovery team works with faculty to incorporate experiential learning and leadership in the day-to-day curriculum for all divisions.

Current Westminster families should refer to the resource boards on Wildcat Web for more information on registration and programming.

In their own words

custom class: quotation-slide

The skills I learned during Discovery are ones I can use at school and in life. It was an invaluable experience that I got to share with my classmates and that I look forward to sharing with freshmen as a student leader.
